Jeanette lives and works from her small studio gallery, ‘Moment in Time’ at Durham Lead near Ballarat in Victoria. Here in the centre of the early settlements and gold fields there is a wealth of subject matter to glean from, as a lot of her art work is of historical situations.

Jeanette finds inspiration for her subjects in old photographs, documents, historical texts and on-site sketches which sometimes take a lot of research to have an accurate depiction. She is often commissioned to re-create a scene of somebody’s home or their ancestors, working from this information.

She also paints botanical illustrations as well as portraits and folk art for fun. Some of her works are miniature ‘cameos’ on various supports, canvas, and watercolour or on gum leaves.

Depending on the subject, Jeanette works in various mediums, mainly oil, watercolour, pen and wash, acrylics or bark from eucalyptus. She has created over 6000 bark pictures and has had exhibitions at numerous venues around Australia for over 45 years.

Not having the opportunity for formal art education, and being mainly ‘self-taught’ Jeanette has completed several adult education courses, but says one never stops learning.

As the pace of modern life quickens we tend to loose sight of just how much we owe to our pioneers and their hardships that made Australia great. With this in mind --- Jeanette enjoys ‘capturing a moment in time’ from the past to record for future generations!

Jeanette will be exhibiting at her ‘Moment in Time’ studio gallery for the Golden Plains Arts Trail on 24 & 25 March 2012. ‘I have had a busy year with several commissions completed. Lots of sketches, photos and ideas and new works for the Arts Trail’ says Jeanette. ‘Also, have invited two young artists, Larelle Caughlan and Amity Forrest to show and demonstrate their work. I shall also have an historic photograph display as well as a smaller scale outdoor version of the Volcano Dreaming mural by Kerrie Poliness.
